Kamloops, British Columbia * CANADA *

At one time or another, we all require a little extra moving space that we don’t necessarily own. Trucks, utility trailers, cargo trailers, and other rig purchases can be out of our budget sometimes, or we find we don’t need them often, or we just don’t have the storage room on our property for them.

Luckily, we can lean on small companies like Little RV rentals where their short-term rentals can fulfill our immediate needs for a fraction of the price of larger rental businesses. Not only do we get the benefits of utilizing quality trailers, but we get the relief in savings and the lack of ownership.

Based out of Kamloops, British Columbia, Little RV rentals is a small Canadian company that prides itself in being a licensed business that brings professionalism and quality to all of its thousands of customers.

Previous customers cannot say enough nice things about this family run organization. They rave about the team’s efficiency, useful advice, and overall remarkable experience. The ease in which Little RV Rentals completes their business, says a great deal about their sustainability and impeccable service.

What types of rentals does Little RV Rentals have to offer?

The rentals featured with Little RV Rentals include…yep, you guessed it: RV rentals and travel trailers.

However, we are going to focus on their other rental options which feature a spacious 6 x 10’ cargo trailer for your next move! With extremely reasonable rates for rentals ranging from 24 hours to 1 week, whether it be in town or out of town use.

Although travel to the United States is not permitted, Little RV Rentals gives leeway, within surrounding areas of Kamloops, to their clientele to assist them as best as they can.

The team offers a variety of payment options and information about needed towing capabilities to ensure that you are renting the type of trailer that will be your tow rig’s specifications.

Essentially Little RV Rentals provides details on insurance, rental agreements, delivery and setup options, deposit information, as well as booking expectations. They have taken all of the guesswork out of the experience and that makes for an enjoyable experience when clear boundaries are set!

They go the extra mile and offer calendar and reservation information on their www.littlervrentals.com website.

How else can they make your experience a stellar one?

Everyone has an ideal experience when it comes to renting or purchasing from vendors. Is it the customer service that is meaningful to you? Maybe it is the extra options or amenities and services that are included in your rental? It could be the quality of the product that is provided.

Little RV Rentals seems to have it all. They have reviews from previous clientele that will knock your socks off. They have extra options available to assist your moving experience to include (but not limited to) a motorcycle wheel transport chock and moving blankets.

Better yet, the owners take pride in maintaining their equipment to ensure that each patron will get good use out of their rental.

Is renting from a smaller company really better?

We believe it is! Not only are you supporting a local small business, but you are gaining that personal touch that comes with a family run organization. You aren’t just a number, but a real person to Little RV Rentals. As a family that travels, they understand what you need and may require.

Finding the right size cargo trailer seems like it could be a difficult process.

Having the forethought to spatially envision how to pack your things within a certain amount of area isn’t everyone’s forte. That’s ok! We always recommend your best guess, with little extra room for the “just in case” moments.

Now you are probably wondering, what is the largest cargo trailer that I can rent? Depending on your needs, your idea of big may be the largest option you can rent from your local well known rental company.

However, there are companies nationwide that offer more room according to your specific items. We have information on the most common larger sizes to help you get started.

6’ x 12’ Enclosed Cargo Trailer

The most well-known rental company carries a 6 ft by 12 ft cargo trailer as their largest option for moving your items. This cargo space has a weight capacity of 2,500 lbs. It can carry many rooms of furniture combined and packed neatly in this space.

It can also be towed by an SUV or truck (maybe your current RV tow package) for convenience. As large of a space as it is, it still may not be quite enough for your average multi-family home.

16’ x 7’ Enclosed Cargo Trailer

As a longer and wider cargo space, it will be more difficult to access certain items near the front if someone were needing to do so. This rental size comes equipped with a side door towards the front of the unit (away from the rear pull up door).

This comes in handy for maneuvering items within the trailer itself, as well as gaining entry in case you needed something during the trip. This trailer also features a bumper pull, two spare tires, unlimited driver miles with certain rental companies.

18.5’ x 8’ and 20.5’ x 8’ Enclosed Cargo Trailers

These models are much like its slightly smaller brothers. They have a side access door to ease packing and unpacking the unit. They come with spare tires to ensure travel safety along the roadway. They also allow you to tow along more than household belongings.

Let’s say you have recreational bikes or ATVs. Maybe you aren’t moving your house, but a car? These enclosed trailers allow you the space to do so, while protecting a prized asset.

24’ Long Cargo Trailer

This is a lot of trailer to pull, so make sure your tow rig meets the specifications prior to rental. A class 5 hitch is recommended for this size cargo space. This model also includes wall D-rings and an E-track, dome lights, and electric brakes on all wheels.

Ramp extensions make your packing and unpacking that much easier. Most rental places will offer the use of trailer accessories should you not have your own. Better still, these rental places will offer services like pick up or delivery.

If your comfort level isn’t up to towing one of these cargo spaces, then they have trained professionals who will assist at extra cost.

28’ x 8’ Enclosed Cargo Trailer

As one of the largest cargo trailers, we have found for regular rental, this is the big daddy of cargo spaces. If you are moving from a 3 or 4-bedroom house and are not downsizing in any way, this cargo space will allow you to move all of your beloved items with you.

There is over 1600 square feet of area for you to place your furniture and multitude of boxes. Should you need to tow along your vehicle with household items, you may be able to include that in the trailer as well.

With a variety of large cargo spaces to choose from, you wouldn’t need to make additional trips if you didn’t wish to. This will come in super convenient for long distance moves. The only issue that comes into play is having a truck with a capacity to tow that weight and length.

Rentals for two vehicles is also an option. As you can see, the biggest cargo trailer rental isn’t what we thought it was. There is a higher need for more cargo space than ever before. More companies do exist with more affordable pricing on these large cargo beasts.

Do your research before making a commitment and you will find just what you need!

The functionality of a cargo trailer is extremely underrated.

You see families trailing down highways with their vehicles packed to maximum capacity, and we all know where they are going…COLLEGE! Moving your student away from home requires emotional stability that we didn’t know we needed as parents.

Why make it harder on ourselves by traveling in an uncomfortably packed vehicle?

A cargo trailer is truly the way to go when taking your child to move into a new apartment or dorm room. Let us show you the benefits of a H-haul trailer for college moving and you will wonder why you considered doing anything else and learn why U-Haul is the largest rental company

Distance, Comfort, and Easing Tension

How many times have you packed your vehicle for overnight stays to the grandparents or out of town road trips? The excess baggage and chaos probably caused anxiety in ways you didn’t think of.

There are a lot of big feelings when this transition from child to adult happens, and college drop offs can be made smoother with literally less baggage in your way. You and your family can stay off of each other’s nerves (while making travel memories) more when you aren’t having to shift a duffel bag out of the way to gain access to your backpack.

A cargo trailer is the perfect way to bring everything along, while still keeping your vehicle uncluttered and chaos free. Especially if you still have about 300 more miles to go…

Streamlining 18 Years’ Worth of Life in a Sedan

Your college student may find it difficult to part with beloved items right away. Beyond an athletic trophy or a favorite stuffed animal, your student may be taking furniture and heavy items along with them. Do you really want to attempt to fit a bookshelf or desk in your Toyota Camry?

Probably not feasible, so a cargo space would be perfect for those awkward items. Your student may have additional boxes of items that you hadn’t anticipated, so either way you are covered by having a cargo trailer along for the ride.

Longevity of the Move

Is your student moving only for the college school year, or are they making a permanent move? Either way, it may be recommended to do a one-way trailer rental (unless you have your own). If you are moving across town or four states away, a cargo trailer is going to be your best bet for ensuring an easier move.

Traveling is made easier when you can add or reduce items at will instead of necessity.

Functionality of Space

You will be thanking yourself for the forethought to make this transition with the help of a cargo space.

Your personal space will breathe easier, your student will be able to see the effort it takes to move items from their room to a new facility, and functionality of a clear vehicle will allow you to make any last parenting speeches while being free to see out of your rear-view mirror.

Easier on Your Current Vehicle

Your vehicle will need to be checked for towing capabilities, however if you are able to tow a cargo trailer then you will save your vehicle from unnecessary weight additions. Therefore, making it easier on things like your tires, suspension, and brakes. Find out what size trailer you will need.

Additional weight like heavy boxes and furniture piled to the roof of your vehicle has to have many unknown limitations and adverse effects on your vehicle. Pulling a cargo space will ease that tension off of your personal vehicle.

Cost Effective

In cases where there are just too many items to fit in one vehicle, you would have to drive a second or third family vehicle to ensure that your student arrived at college with all of their needs met.

Who wants to pay the additional gas for a second vehicle (let alone a third one) to travel states away to your students’ college? Let alone finding family members or friends willing to take time off of work, missing out on wages, additional money to feed these people, and the wear and tear on their vehicles.

Hotel rooms alone may break the bank. I mean, you are paying certain expenses for college now. A cargo trailer can ease all of these costs with one simple rental amount.

As you can see, there is a lot to consider in terms of moving your college student. Make the process easier on yourself and them by considering a cargo trailer rental. It will encourage bonding time between you and your student when helping them pack their belongings and jig sawing their items into the space.

The above benefits speak for themselves, but just know that even though you are dealing with emotional aspects of this move and transition, the physical aspects can be taken care of so much easier. It isn’t any easy transition, but it can be an easy move.

Let us know how cargo trailers have helped your students make their move!

Choosing the right size trailer, whether cargo or utility may be the top question on your mind right now. At various times in your life, you may find use for one of these trailers and it really comes down to one thing. What purpose are you using this cargo trailer for?

We can run through some possible scenarios and help you line up the perfect size or model you will need.

Trailers are used daily for all kinds of things.

They are so universal that owning one is a likely solution for anyone these days. Rental company prices are skyrocketing annually, and with the number of times you will find yourself using it, the trailer will pay for itself after a very short time of ownership.

So, what do you need the trailer for?

  • Moving?
  • Transporting heavy machinery?
  • Farm utility?
  • Storage?
  • Office space?
  • Toting camping gear?
  • Hauling dirt bikes or ATVs?
  • Business tools or construction equipment?
  • Mobile business?
  • Various cargo?
  • Living space?
  • Transporting vehicles

The intended use for your cargo trailer will be the deciding factor for the size trailer that you will want. If you are transporting dirt bikes, you may only need a small cargo trailer versus living out of one and needing additional space. Just renting a cargo trailer for moving. One time use…

If you plan on using it for multiple purposes, then you may want to consider going larger in size to accommodate everything that you need it to. What size trailers are offered? Let’s take a look at most on the market currently: Some of the best cargo trailers on the market today!

  • 4 x 8 ft cargo space- This has a smaller weight limit that will allow you to tow with most vehicles. You can move a small studio apartment, small boxes, camping gear or recreational bikes and gear. Great for shorter distances, if you have additional items where you might have to make a couple of trips.
  • 5 x 8 ft cargo trailer- The next step up that gives just a little extra moving space but has a slightly larger weight limit. Great for transporting business or construction tools and equipment or a mobile business.
  • 5 x 10 ft cargo- A slightly longer trailer that will allow the move of a larger apartment and add length for specific items. This is perfect for furniture or moving gear that is oddly shaped.
  • 6 x 12 ft- This cargo trailer is perfect for moving a one- or two-bedroom home. It allows for longer distance moves, as it holds a great deal more items. A king size mattress will easily fit across rows and rows of boxes, along with multiple shelving units. If you have smaller recreational vehicles, this will be a perfect option.

Other considerations include the distance of travel (whether long or short), whether you need an open or closed cargo trailer, and the intended use and what you intend to haul. This will make a difference in the size trailer that you choose.

If you need to go short distances and the weather is great, you may choose an open unit that allows for items that don’t necessarily fit in a box style unit. If you need to go long distances in varying weather, then you may opt for the larger enclosed trailer that will protect your transported items.

You will want to take in all of these factors, but when it really comes down to it you can’t go wrong. The size and build of a cargo trailer is really about immediate convenience. Obviously, you will pay more for a larger trailer, than a smaller one.

If you end up not needing all of the space that the trailer provides, then you will just be the money. However, if you get a small trailer and it ends up not being enough space, then you may pay more down the line to get a bigger one.

In any case, you will make great use of the space and it will be a lifesaver! The choice is yours and you can’t choose wrong. With so many ways to protect your items, including straps to keep your cargo in place, choosing a slightly larger size is always the best route to go.

Many people find it is better to have a little more space, then not enough.

Use your best judgment, and you can’t go wrong! Happy hunting!

Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Museum

Beyond the Arizona cactus and dry heat, you will find a place that is full of mystery and desert beauty. A true wonder, the Meteor Crater is known as the “best-preserved meteorite impact” in the world. When you stand on the rim of the crater, you feel just how small you are in comparison.

In conjunction with the attached Barringer Space Museum, there is something for everyone to find at this popular attraction. Whether you come for the Earth element or you are there to feed your interest in the stars, you will be at just the right place to do so.

Meteor Crater Specifics

Located just between Flagstaff and Winslow in Central Arizona, the Meteor Crater is positioned at the high elevation of almost 6000 feet. The magnificent hole in the ground was created about 50,000 years ago and is almost 4000 feet in diameter and 600 feet deep. To give you an idea, it would take an estimated 2.3 million cement trucks full to fill in this great crater.

The asteroid itself is said to have been only 150 feet in length. As a National Monument, the crater is open to the public on a daily basis for the ultimate otherworld experience.

The impact of the meteor displaced layers of sandstone, limestone, dolostone, and mudstone in an inverted pattern from how the layers traditionally lie underneath the ground. It is amazing to see the various layers and what that signifies to scientists about the impact itself.

What Does the Attraction Have to Offer?

The Meteor Crater and its Space Museum offer everyone of all ages a great deal of fun and interesting programs to partake in. When you plan your visit, make sure to allot enough time for the following opportunities:

  • Lookout Points
  • Guided Rim Tours
  • Discovery Center
  • Space Museum
  • 4D Theater featuring “Collison!” and “Impact! The Mystery of Meteor Crater”
  • Apollo 11 Space Capsule
  • Gift and Mineral Shop
  • Eat at the Blasted Bistro

Our Personal Experience

Our Meteor Crater Story is one that our family will NEVER forget.

It left us all with a greater interest in the wonders of space and what else is out there we don’t know about. Our guide was a gentleman that was entertaining and gracious. Although we chose to go during August, one of the hottest months in Arizona, we enjoyed every minute of our tour.

Our tour guide warned us of the man at the bottom of the crater, and we didn’t believe him. That is, until we took the lookout paths and used the telescope to peer down into the crater itself. It put everything in perspective to see him down there!

You stand on the rim, during the guided tour looking over the immense space but it is hard to gather the depth of what you are seeing. That is, until you see the man at the bottom, which you can’t see with the naked eye. It’s truly incredible.

This place of natural made beauty is one that everyone should have on their bucket list. Come see our gorgeous state and its desert landscapes. You won’t want to miss a chance to see this enormous “hole in the ground”!

Let us know your experience!

When we think of moving vans and rental trucks or trailers, what is the first name that comes to mind? We think of U-Haul and the major corporation where you can rent various types of equipment to make your move.

What makes U-Haul the largest rental fleet known today?

A few factors come into play, which we will explore. How much do you know about this company that has a monopoly on rental and storage units? Let’s take a look at their backstory to understand a little more about how they rose to such heights.

Where U-Haul Climbed the Ranks

Established in 1945, U-Haul got its start in Washington State. It started off as a modest, family run business that eventually came to land in towns all across the United States. Branding and expanding their services has been a huge part of U-Haul’s success.

They brand their name all over their products, down to the tape that they sell in their stores. One-way rentals were a huge game changer for the company as well and by 1955, there were over 10,000 company trailers on the road. Huge growth so fast, and they have been able to grow exponentially over the years.

Services U-Haul Offers

Not only does U-Haul boast various moving trucks and cargo trailers, but they offer expanded services above and beyond to ensure clientele have what they need to complete their projects. They offer storage units for those in need of extra space outside their current living situations.

Additional services offered include:

  • Moving supplies such as boxes, tape, protective packaging, mattress covers, etc.
  • Moving trucks with various sizes dependent on the size of a person’s living quarters
  • Cargo and utility trailers to move odd-shaped items
  • Regular cab truck rentals in case you need something from the lumber store
  • Self-Storage to alleviate cramped spaces
  • Tow hitches in case you don’t own one for trailer use
  • Car dolly to ensure your personal vehicle can travel behind a moving truck
  • Hand trucks for ultimate moving ease
  • Storage pods for across the road moving needs
  • Vans for extra cargo space

The list goes on, and U-Haul is continually revamping their services to provide additional benefits to communities around the country. They are the most well-known moving equipment company, and so their fame continues to grow with each customer.

Unfortunately, there has been some bad press with customer service issues. However, that doesn’t seem to be hurting their business or bottom line any. Since they have such a monopoly on the moving and storage base, it is hard to find comparable pricing with other companies.

Which brings us to our next section…

Most Cost-Efficient Option

U-Haul tends to keep their prices slightly under the competition, which helps them be the number one choice in moving equipment. Moving is a costly business, and most of us go for the path of least resistance and the easiest choice on our pocketbooks.

You get what you pay for though. Cutting corners with cost is ideal for most of us, but what really suffers in the long run? Customer service, quality of equipment, and long-term value. At any rate, the company and their business seem to be booming into the future.

What is your favorite moving company to use? We would love to hear from you!

Moving can be an especially stressful time for most people. The laundry list of items seems never-ending.

Am I taking this item or that item with me? When do I have to have everything moved out to be able to clean? When can I submit my address change? Decisions on whether to get a moving van or cargo trailer. Moving out of state or just across town, may determine if you are downsizing.

Renting a cargo trailer to move with

In either case, a cargo trailer is going to be a great option for your move! Trying to coordinate the moving of various sized items from your old address to your new location can be intimidating. Cargo trailer rentals are an easy one to check off that list of yours. You are getting closer to the end, I promise you!

If you don’t already own a cargo trailer, you may not realize just how handy they can be long term for just about anything, but ESPECIALLY for moving. If you own a trailer already, then I’m sure you have even lent it to help out a friend for that very reason.

You don’t have your own yet, that is okay too! There are plenty of rental businesses that offer their inventory up for the sole purpose of moving our stuff from one place to another.

Moving Out of State

Depending on the number of items you are taking along your journey, we recommend you consider a cargo trailer, instead of a large box moving truck. With so many benefits to a smaller cargo space, it really becomes a no brainer. Let’s take a look at what we mean.

  • Decrease in Cost – A moving truck out of state can cost at least 3 times the amount of renting a cargo trailer. That’s right. We said it. If you look at any of the notable rental companies, not only will the rental of the truck cost more, but so will the insurance they sell you for the drive AND you will have to pay to fill up the gas tank along the way. Not a pretty picture when you break down your moving costs.
  • Limited Drivers – You have your own personal vehicle, and you are driving a moving truck, but no one to drive your personal vehicle for you, this leaves you with the additional cost of renting a car dolly to take your personal vehicle with you. The only other option would be to fly back to get your vehicle at a later date, which incurs an additional cost as well.
  • Environmentally Friendly – If you are concerned about a low carbon footprint, then the cargo trailer wins hands down over a moving truck. There are no extra emissions to worry about with attaching a trailer to your vehicle.
  • Versatility – You won’t have to take any detour routes along the way, as a cargo trailer doesn’t typically break any height barriers. A tall moving truck may reach over maximum height clearances along some roadways, which may cause a delay in your travels.

Moving Across Town

This will really make an in-town job extremely easy and decrease your stress level. A cargo trailer is perfect for short moves, for so many reasons. Let’s take a look at exactly why that is…

  • Cost Effective – A box truck will likely be still more expensive than a cargo trailer around town. When you return it to the same location that you picked the rental up from, it is less likely you will need insurance. You are able to rent for smaller chunks of time, so the end bill is significantly less.
  • Attach and Go – You can just attach the cargo trailer to your tow vehicle, and you are off and running! No need to do a lengthy inspection on a moving truck or set aside time to go fill it back up with gas or worry about the mileage and wonder if you will make it under the limit.
  • Pack at Your Discretion – You will not have to worry about fitting everything in one load to be the most cost effective. You can fill that cargo trailer however many times you need to in the allotted amount of time before you have to return it. Multiple trips never bothered us if it saves us a little in the pocketbook, right?
  • Driver Limitations – If you used a moving truck, you may need someone extra there who is capable of driving a large vehicle like that. Also, coordinating someone to take you to the rental place and drive back your personal vehicle becomes a whole new task in itself. We are trying to avoid adding to the laundry list of things to do, right?

As you can see, there is so much value to renting a cargo trailer for your next move. Be sure to compare and contrast your next rental. You can look at traditional moving companies or check out your nearest teardrop trailer dealership. There are new teardrop units coming out all the time that double as cargo units to help you in your endeavor.

The versatility of cargo spaces like that almost become a necessity for how much you will use it! Be safe on your next move!

My Experience:

Moving Onwards and Upwards

Are you someone who likes to move? Do you like to take to the road and set your roots down in new places? I love to move and see new places, but I am not a fan of the actual moving process. Packing things up and doing the heavy lifting has never been my forte. The organization part afterwards, that I enjoy!

The moving part I do, only because I have to since I don’t want to pay others to do it for me. What does it cost to rent a cargo trailer?

I like to use cargo trailers for my moves. Not only do I feel like my belongings are more protected, I feel these types of trailers are essential to overall safety if your move is going to take more than one day. I mean you are packing your life up in boxes. Your momentos, your pricey furniture, your vast amounts of clothing.

You want to make sure they don’t grow legs and walk away. I utilize a lock on my enclosed cargo trailer and I have a strong sense of security. I can walk away to go into the store or stay the night in our RV, and I know my things can’t be accessed without my hearing it.

Where To Next?

My husband and I made the move to Arizona and we had to cross 4 states to get there.

It took us all of three nights and four full days, but we made it intact. I swear my husband was a master Tetris player back in the day, because the ideas he had on how we could manage all of our life into a 6×12 enclosed cargo trailer just blew me away. We are talking about a 10×12 storage unit packed into this space.

You should have seen the ingenuity of this man! In a mere few hours, we were loaded and ready to hit the road. These trailers are sturdy for one thing, especially hitting top freeway speeds. Although we pulled it with our RV, it hit some rough terrain and we were extremely grateful that the tires remained steady and the hitch secured.

Our first night on the road, I went to sleep right away.

Knowing that my gear was in no danger of theft, it is worth the extra money to me. Obviously, we could have secured our items down in a utility trailer but knowing that someone couldn’t just peek over the wall of the trailer made me feel that much better.

To tell the truth, we also had some fly away items just stuffed in between boxes, so I probably would have lost those along the move somewhere in the desert, LOL. Cargo trailer VS Open utility trailer

The next day, we were up and going along our journey again. Endorphins were high, as the excitement of our relocation grew. The great open road with all of its beauty and potential. Then about lunchtime, I realize that I need access to something in the trailer. Luckily, the clothes I needed were thoughtfully added towards the end of packing.

It was so easy to unlock and pop open that cargo hold to get my things. Then close it right back up. Nothing had shifted terribly, which was amazing in itself! Considering the mountains we had climbed and the speeds we had traveled, I was surprised. Though I think I told you what an awesome job loading that my husband did, right?!

Be as it may, certain items were easy to get to and allowed me peace of mind to know nothing was broken!

What About the Weather?

Our life was protected from the various elements that we endured along the four day interstate trek. We met with rain, chilling cold, intense heat, and all the while our stuff stayed dry and undamaged. This would not have been the case had we decided on buying that open trailer. Then again, the enclosed cargo space just fit our needs at the time.

Protection and security against theft and weather were key. We had just missed a snowstorm through Northern Nevada, coming in a day after we had stayed the night. Imagine if we hadn’t had the trailer we did. I don’t like to. Once we hit the southern Nevada and western Arizona heat, we were also grateful that everything was tucked away from the sun rays.

We have seen first hand what sun exposure does over the long term and it isn’t pretty.

We Made It!

Coming into our new hometown, the trailer made me proud! It had persisted through various mountain passes and pothole roads and came out the other end with no new scratches or tire damage. I call that a win! We opened it up and unloading was easier than loading, thank goodness!

All in all, our trip south was a success and I am so thankful for having a secure and reliable trailer to haul our life with us.

Owning Versus Renting

I will always recommend owning your own trailer over renting. Wanting to purchase a cargo trailer? Check out 7 of the best cargo trailer brands.

Although our circumstances didn’t allow us to travel with our own purchased trailer, we intend on getting one for all of the above reasons I have mentioned. We attempted to purchase a used one prior to our move, however it just wasn’t in the cards.

Renting a cargo trailer was quite pricey for those four days, but the alternative was a big moving truck and we just didn’t need that kind of space. Your cargo trailer will pay you back tenfold over the course of its lifetime by purchasing up front. Depending on your usage, you are looking at a pretty penny when you rent from any company.

Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without this sweet little cargo trailer. We may have ended up with a nightmare of broken or lost items. Considering the little we did bring with us, it would have been a substantial loss. We highly recommend these trailers for any move!

When you think of renting a cargo trailer, what comes to mind first?

A quality company that will stand behind their trailer? Or the most affordable option available? Do you choose the company with the most additional services, even if you don’t use them all? Is it the more known brand name or the less known business?

We are going to take a look at the small business trailer company against the more known big box trailer companies. It might make you think twice against where you want to direct your patronage.

(You may be forced to rent from one of the large trailer rental companies if your renting a trailer one way)!

The Pros and Cons of a Small Business

Benefits of A Mom & Pop Rental Shop

  • High Quality. Small businesses are likely to sink time and investment into their trailers. If they only have a small fleet, they want to give their clientele quality and know that their items are going to last a long time.
  • Appreciation for Clients. If you are a regular renter, the business owners are likely to know who you are and treat you with high regard. You won’t be another number in the system. Personal greetings and appreciation for your orders make a difference! They will care about your rental experience and concerns.
  • Your Support Matters. You know your money will be going to support a local family. It won’t necessarily be making the top dogs a fortune, but your business will help put a kiddo through sports or going towards someone’s retirement.

Downsides of a Mom & Pop Rental Shop

  • Low Inventory. There may not be as much to choose from when renting your cargo trailer. They may not have the size you need when you need it. You may end up needing to settle for something that doesn’t quite fit your needs.
  • Pay More. You are likely to pay more than a better known rental brand, due to the higher costs of a small business. You may not receive discounts and you will probably be required to partake in the rental insurance, as the inventory is lower and it may cost the shop owner more in the long run.
  • Availability. Making your rental request may require more preparation and advance notice. The available trailers may not coincide with your timeframe. If you need something on a whim, there may not be trailers at the ready.

The Pros and Cons of a Large Brand

Benefits of a Large Brand Rental Shop

  • High Inventory. The great thing about options, if you decide at the last minute that you need a different size, a larger shop is likely to accommodate your need. The fleet of trailers is likely to be more. Big Trailer Rentals
  • Lower Prices. At a larger shop, there are likely to be discounts or upgrades because they can afford to lose a little money in the long run for more potential business or referrals. The brand won’t really be losing out in the end.
  • No Insurance Required. Insurance is offered, but is not necessary. A large shop is likely not to care about small dings or scratches. You won’t be charged extra fees if the damage is extremely minimal as they take that into account in their pricing.

Downsides to a Large Brand Rental Shop

  • No Personal Touch. A big box company is likely not to care about you and your story. They won’t know you from the next person, and there won’t be genuine concern for your rental experience. They won’t care to better themselves, because there will be another person in line to use their services.
  • Support Big Wigs. Your support and money is going to pad the bank accounts of the higher ups. The “little guys” in customer service get paid a minimum for doing all the heavy lifting, so to speak.
  • Low Quality. The trailers you are renting are likely to be lower quality, as they don’t tend to fix or replace parts unless it’s completely non functional. The trailer could end up blowing a tire on your watch, making it inconvenient for you.

As you can see, there is much to consider when making your rental trailer decisions. Not to mention the decision of whether to rent an enclosed cargo trailer or an open utility trailer.

The amount of time you need the rental services, and the cargo in which you are towing will definitely make a difference in your choice to rent from a small company or from a large corporation. Excellent customer service is essential to some people, while the best possible pricing is non-negotiable to others.

It’s all about your preferences and what you are willing to support! It’s YOUR choice. Just give these points a little consideration and you will make the right choice for you and your situation! That’s the wonderful thing about this country.

The freedom to choose!

So you need room to carry items with you on the road?

One never thinks of how useful a trailer really is until they need to haul something, right? Well the time is here. You need to transport some items, and you aren’t really sure what kind of trailer is right for you. Do you rent an open utility trailer? How about a cargo trailer that is enclosed? Are there benefits to one over the other? Which do I choose? I’m so confused…

That’s ok! Both types of trailers are everything you need to carry household items, furniture, basic tools, machines, outdoor adventure toys, various necessary cargo for moving, personal or business use, etcetera. Each type is going to offer its own benefits and downsides.

What are the differences and why should you care? What are you going to be hauling most and what suits your lifestyle and needs in the best way possible? Everyone needs to start somewhere, and we have the information you need to make an informed decision.

Also you will need to consider the distance you are moving/hauling. If your traveling more than 2 hours you might want to consider Renting a cargo trailer one way. Considering the weather conditions you can opt for an open utility trailer or error on the safe side and rent an enclosed cargo trailer.

The Challenge Begins: Enclosed Versus Open

Open utility trailers have the versatility that allows significantly more options in terms of what you are hauling, while the enclosed cargo spaces take into account the elements. Obviously you need to take into account the girth, height, and weight of what you will be towing around.

Not to mention the number of items you plan to haul at the same time. Let’s Break each of them down to give you the best overview and what you can come to expect…

Open Utility Trailers Benefits-

  • Open Designs: The height of items you will be hauling won’t matter as much in an open concept trailer (unless you plan to travel through certain roadway tunnels). There is no ceiling and therefore makes transport of taller items easier to do. This is especially functional with different types of furniture and other oddly shaped cargo! Outdoor adventurers use this type to haul their toys and it is easy to tarp up when necessary. Outdoor business owners are also likely to use these for the ease it allows them in removing their tools and equipment timely and efficiently to complete their work.
  • Lighter in Weight: These trailers are likely to be easier to tow with a current vehicle, as they are lighter in weight. There is not as much material needed to fashion an open utility trailer, and this not only opens up the possibilities of towing but also aids in lower gas consumption out on the road. Anything to help the old pocketbook!
  • Increased Visibility: Your need for tow mirrors on your vehicle diminishes (dependent on what you are hauling) with the open trailer. Your ability to see around your cargo is greater and your line of sight is vastly improved, which makes your travel on the roads safer for you and those around you.

Enclosed cargo trailers give you the advantage of protection and security along any kind of road you will be traveling. It is important to take into account the fragility of the items you will be towing. Do you need something that will increase your cargo’s level of safety? What about the cost of renting a cargo trailer?

The benefits of an enclosed cargo space are also the downfalls to the open trailer concepts. Again, it is all in how you are intending to use the space.

Enclosed Cargo Trailer Benefits-

  • Branding Potential. Whether you are using your enclosed cargo space for business or pleasure, walls increase the capacity for you to brand a specific logo on the outer surfaces. You can build your clientele by displaying your company name or increase the fun by adding your own personal touch. There are many prospects in customization to the exterior or interior materials to support your needs by adding cabinet spaces, roof racks, or shelving. The possibilities are endless!
  • Increased Protection. You will be able to close up your cargo and utilize a lock for increased security to your load. Unless someone has the key or combination to reach the contents, it will remain untouched and safe from prying eyes. This feature allows you to be able to step away from your trailer for periods of time, minimizing theft.
  • Multi-Use Features. Have you ever thought about including a sleeping area and using it for camping? How about turning it into a mini office space? Maybe you could use it for your mobile business and provide service to many. How about some extra storage? Being enclosed allows for preservation from exposure. If sealed properly, the interior space will remain untouched by elements and opens up multiple options for usage.

In the End…

It comes down to how you intend on using your trailer space. When renting or buying a trailer there is no right or wrong answer. There are many uses for each design. All that is left is for you to decide on what best fits your needs. What makes the most sense to you?

Have you considered purchasing a trailer? Instead of a one time rental? What brands of trailer manufactures do you look at? Naturally you will want to buy the best you can afford, right. You may have this new trailer for a long time. The leaders in the best cargo trailer manufacturing brands are many, we narrow it down for you…

Then the fun part begins and you get to pick out your very own utility or cargo trailer! Happy hunting!
