Rent a Cargo Trailer for Moving

Moving can be an especially stressful time for most people. The laundry list of items seems never-ending.

Am I taking this item or that item with me? When do I have to have everything moved out to be able to clean? When can I submit my address change? Decisions on whether to get a moving van or cargo trailer. Moving out of state or just across town, may determine if you are downsizing.

Renting a cargo trailer to move with

In either case, a cargo trailer is going to be a great option for your move! Trying to coordinate the moving of various sized items from your old address to your new location can be intimidating. Cargo trailer rentals are an easy one to check off that list of yours. You are getting closer to the end, I promise you!

If you don’t already own a cargo trailer, you may not realize just how handy they can be long term for just about anything, but ESPECIALLY for moving. If you own a trailer already, then I’m sure you have even lent it to help out a friend for that very reason.

You don’t have your own yet, that is okay too! There are plenty of rental businesses that offer their inventory up for the sole purpose of moving our stuff from one place to another.

Moving Out of State

Depending on the number of items you are taking along your journey, we recommend you consider a cargo trailer, instead of a large box moving truck. With so many benefits to a smaller cargo space, it really becomes a no brainer. Let’s take a look at what we mean.

  • Decrease in Cost – A moving truck out of state can cost at least 3 times the amount of renting a cargo trailer. That’s right. We said it. If you look at any of the notable rental companies, not only will the rental of the truck cost more, but so will the insurance they sell you for the drive AND you will have to pay to fill up the gas tank along the way. Not a pretty picture when you break down your moving costs.
  • Limited Drivers – You have your own personal vehicle, and you are driving a moving truck, but no one to drive your personal vehicle for you, this leaves you with the additional cost of renting a car dolly to take your personal vehicle with you. The only other option would be to fly back to get your vehicle at a later date, which incurs an additional cost as well.
  • Environmentally Friendly – If you are concerned about a low carbon footprint, then the cargo trailer wins hands down over a moving truck. There are no extra emissions to worry about with attaching a trailer to your vehicle.
  • Versatility – You won’t have to take any detour routes along the way, as a cargo trailer doesn’t typically break any height barriers. A tall moving truck may reach over maximum height clearances along some roadways, which may cause a delay in your travels.

Moving Across Town

This will really make an in-town job extremely easy and decrease your stress level. A cargo trailer is perfect for short moves, for so many reasons. Let’s take a look at exactly why that is…

  • Cost Effective – A box truck will likely be still more expensive than a cargo trailer around town. When you return it to the same location that you picked the rental up from, it is less likely you will need insurance. You are able to rent for smaller chunks of time, so the end bill is significantly less.
  • Attach and Go – You can just attach the cargo trailer to your tow vehicle, and you are off and running! No need to do a lengthy inspection on a moving truck or set aside time to go fill it back up with gas or worry about the mileage and wonder if you will make it under the limit.
  • Pack at Your Discretion – You will not have to worry about fitting everything in one load to be the most cost effective. You can fill that cargo trailer however many times you need to in the allotted amount of time before you have to return it. Multiple trips never bothered us if it saves us a little in the pocketbook, right?
  • Driver Limitations – If you used a moving truck, you may need someone extra there who is capable of driving a large vehicle like that. Also, coordinating someone to take you to the rental place and drive back your personal vehicle becomes a whole new task in itself. We are trying to avoid adding to the laundry list of things to do, right?

As you can see, there is so much value to renting a cargo trailer for your next move. Be sure to compare and contrast your next rental. You can look at traditional moving companies or check out your nearest teardrop trailer dealership. There are new teardrop units coming out all the time that double as cargo units to help you in your endeavor.

The versatility of cargo spaces like that almost become a necessity for how much you will use it! Be safe on your next move!
